MOT NEXT WEEK!

Well it's been over a year since getting the Capri but it's finally nearing it's MOT :D

Seatbelts are now installed, alarm and immobiliser are in and working, alloys are polished and painted (not perfect but getting new ones eventually anyway), new parcel shelf has been made and speakers installed, headlining is fastened up (but need some more heat resistant glue, as it comes away at the sunroof when its warm)
ANNNNNNND most importantly the engine has been treated to all new gaskets and valve stem oil seals, and now isn't smoking!!!

Turns out half of the oil seals were gone and not sealing anything so oil was going straight into the head and onto the cylinders.

The only things I have left to do are find out why the rear window wiper isn't working, put the brand new tyres I've bought onto the alloys and going to change the steering rack as well just so its done....apart from that it's ready for it's MOT :D

 Headlining up

 Alloys started

Started stripping engine

 Oily block

All clean :D

 New seals

Alloys finished

Will update when the car is mot'ed which should be next week.

Getting there....nearly finished

I really haven't been putting as much effort in to the Capri, of late.
However, she is nearly done, just a few little bits (that I can't be bothered to do) left lol.

 Engine in, new pipes on

Dashboard in, new steering wheel boss on, new gear knob on, pedals in

Carpet in, centre console in, seats in, Mountney steering on, electric window kit in, central locking kit in

Front & rear seats in and centre console

 New indicators in

Back box removed and 2" pipe welded in

 Head unit wired and installed

New brake pipes all round, new front brake pads, new rear brake shoes and cylinders, new polyurethane bump stops

New windscreen!

Things left to do:
- Finish installing front seatbelts
- Wire in the alarm
- Refurbish the pepper pot alloys
- Find out why the rear screen wiper isn't working
- Build new parcel shelf
- Finish fastening the headlining up

- Stop the engine smoking (new piston rings? Valve seals?)

Getting Somewhere

Managed to get the car painted last week :D

Tried painting directly onto the rubbed down paint and it just reacted again where the lacquer had frosted over so decided to re-prime the whole car.
It still left little patches of like, pin holes in the paint, but all in all it's not looking too bad.

There was also a few places where the paint reacted, such as patches on both doors and also a bit on the fuel filler cap, but I've decided to come back and sort these at a later date.

Also, painted my mk1 Capri badge and drilled some holes in the boot lid for it and also painted the boot lock.

It's now full steam ahead on putting the car back together. Already got both the front and back bumpers back on, the front grille is on, as are the valance grilles. The headlights are in but need the wires splicing into the Capri loom. The Ford and Capri badges have been put on, and the spoiler has been attached. I've also drilled a hole in the roof and put the new shark fin aerial on.
Also started sticking all the insulation back onto the inside of the roof so that the roof lining can get put back on, as the windscreen will arrive on Wednesday, so need the lining back in before the windscreen goes in.

Will update when more is done.

Keep forgetting about the blog

So, the weather has still been crap so nothing has been done to the capri still :(
Getting quite sick of the bad weather tbh, but hopefully it'll start brightening up soon.

As for the little progress I have made, got the bumpers sprayed matt black and the front grill, also took the pepper pots off to refurbish so now it's sitting on xr3i clover leafs (and it looks stupid, but it's only temporary lol)

I'll add more when it happens.

Starting to sort out the mess

So, it's been a while since I updated this, but the project is far from dead.....weather hasn't really been much of a team player, as well as working more over Christmas, means that I haven't spent as much time as I would have liked on the Capri.

Here are some pictures of the ruined paintwork, after the lacquer frosted over:

I have rubbed the car completely back down though. This picture is the front offside wing after being rubbed down (it's still wet from sanding it, so the water is kind of acting as lacquer....not to bad really)

Also got some new parts while I haven't been able to respray it:

Mk1 Capri badge

Pressed plates

Sparco gear knob

Got some things painted in the bit of sun we actually have had: The headlight backing plates and covers are done, and the BMW angel eyes are in place, also got the door handles painted aswell.
All the trim pieces will be done satin black, as will the new bumpers.

Will update this the next time I manage to get something else done.
